I've been doing research on these guys and they are really good. The software is even better and classified. Most of the work for US snipers was done by the Navy at NWS Crane. The 300 Win Mag beat out the 338 Lapua for several reasons. The effective range for our sniper was set at 1500 yards and the 300 WM was juiced up using H1000 powder. At the end of the day, the 220 grain Match King with a BC of .629 won out. Since 2011 the standard US sniper rifle is a Remington chambered in 300 WM with a 24 inch barrel using the MK 248 Mod 1 cartridge. There is a good article on the subject in the June American Rifleman. Chris Kyle is the all time US champion sniper with 160 confirmed kills, most using the 300WM. He called his 2100 yard kill shot "lucky". >3000 meters has got to have some luck involved! I don't think there is a scope in the world that will even dial up anywhere close to 3000 meters!

There is a bit of luck with every shot and the lucky goes up exponentially as the distance increases. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C14_Timberwolf

Now that would be an understatement! At 2 miles in the mountains it could have drifted 30' to the right then 50'to to the Left then 20' back to the right, then hit the target. The same could be said about up and down to a lesser degree.
When our best sniper says the his 1500 yard shot was total luck then the Canadian guy hit the lotto! Two things come to mind......the bullet was tumbling and there aren't enough clicks on the scope to get that far.

The American sniper that I think is the all time best I will have too look up his name but was a civil war sniper that shot men at around 1800 yards with the guns of the day!!!! I will look him up.

When you look at the equipment differences to me this is the best shot ever.
