We got about another inch of fresh snow last night on top of the two we already had. The starlings seem to be really hungry today. I killed several with the pellet rifle & as usual the resident hawks showed up immediately for a snack. What I killed didn't appear to bother the starlings. A flock of about 30 lit about 40 yards away to fight over some corn in the snow. I sneaked out on the little back porch with the old Stevens 20 gauge SS shotgun with a Rem. Express hull in it. I cut a swath about 12 inches wide thru the herd. The hawks came in within minutes to clean the place up. Apparently I killed 8 that didn't fly off. It'll keep the hawks busy a while. It would have been better if the shot was 60 or 70 yards to give more spread. Muffin said I should have spooked them up so they had a 50/50 chance. The way I see it, they had a 50/50 chance sitting there. :D.......Paul H
