Contrary to my normal modus operandi when posting pictures of critters, I have neither the common name nor the scientific name for this moth as I know neither. (I will find out and post here later.) Found it dying on my dining room floor. I thought it was cool enough to take pictures of and post here.

Pretty bug. I don't recollect ever seeing one like it. ......Paul H

I have found out that it is one of a group called "owlet" moths. Probably Mesogona olivata. Bad crop pest called "cutworms".

I spent an hour looking and found zip. Cutworms? Probably good he/she is no longer with us.

Looking at the coloring, and knowing how well moths are usually camouflaged, I would have thought it belonged on the bark of a cedar tree.
