Hoary treetops. Nice what polaroid and UV filters do to the sky on a bright day. ;)



On a cold, clear day, you can see the ice crystals in the air when you are looking directly at the sun. Otherwise, they are invisible. It gives a magic aura to the scene. Unfortunately, these picture don't do it justice. Look at a line directly below the sun in the shade.



With apple trees and moose tracks...



This picture has been enhanced in an attempt to show the crystals more clearly.




Here are some pictures - still through the window, but not with the cell phone - of some more grosbeaks (Pinicola enucleator). These first three are of a female.







Here's a pair, with the male having the red head, shoulders, and rump.

Thanks, Rick. The color rendition of the female grosbeaks is way too orange. (As a rule, digital cameras over-saturate red.) Here are the three female pictures with the color adjusted about as close as I can get it to real, but the fact is, these are bit too green. It's tough to get it right.
